Chinese New Year Cultural & Heritage Celebration 2012

Event: Chinese New Year & Cultural Heritage Celebration

Date: 29th January 2012

Time: 3.00pm- 12.00am

Venue: Armenian St, Ah Quee St, Acheh St, Canon St, Chulia St, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Soo Hong Lane and Kampong Kolam

 

This year, welcome the Year of the Dragon with various activities and performances around the heritage zone. Learn about dragons in Chinese culture at Cheah Kongsi, Armenian Street and then proceed to a delicious display of traditional Chinese food such as steamed buns, dumplings, bread and tea at Khoo Kongsi , Canon Street. You can  also join in the fun with many different traditional childhood games that will be on through out the day. If you are interested in traditional Chinese medicine, pay a visit to Lim Kongsi at Lebuh Ah Quee to learn about traditional Chinese medicine, Tai Chi and other forms of Traditional Chinese health care. Traditional handicrafts will also be displayed and sold at Lebuh Ah Quee. Armenian Street will also be bustling on this day with various exhibitions on the history of Clan House in Penang and the history of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. The Syed Alatas Mansion at Lebuh Acheh will also be opened for visitors.

 

The highlight of the programs include the following:

1) 6 “ Chinese Traditional Livelihood Zone” , “Clan Area”, “Chinese Native Area” featuring Chinese virtue, traditional Chinese cuisine, Dragon calligraphy , photo exhibition, 12 Lunar seasonal festivals exhibition, other traditional Chinese cultural exhibition, performances and demonstrations.

2) Down Memory Lane with traditional games, handicraft trails, traditional Chinese cultural dance, opera shows, lion dance, Wushu performance at Khoo Kongsi, Cheah Kongsi, Lim Kongsi, Yap Kongsi and Penang Youth Centre.

3) Local Penang delights and hotel food stalls decoration.
