JohnShen.L Photojournalist

I’ve started JohnShen.L Photo Blog and uploaded all the photos that i had taken in this six year. In this six year I had learnt many things on photography, met many great photographers and photojournalist, looked at some incredible shots on the web.. and I think if I didn’t start photoblogging, I would have lost many opportunities. So, after 1 year of blogging, I thought it would be cool to write some kind of Guide to Great Photography. But, I’m going to tell you a secret: I’m not an amazing photographer or a super blogger, my website is not making trillions of visitors neither, so don’t have huge expectations.

I am JohnShen Lee. 20 Years Old from Penang – The Pearl of Orient which is a small island where located in Malaysia. I’m Photojournalist base in Penang, Malaysia. I do produce excellent photos and videos. My daily thoughts and research are from every thing about Photography, Tech, Online and Offline Spaces. Other then that i’m also Freelance Photographer which capture moment of life thru events. I’m also a Roller Skater which skate every week. What is a Photo Blog?
A photoblog (a.k.a. photolog or phlog) is a form of photo sharing and publishing in the format of a blog, but differentiated by the predominant use of and focus on photographs rather than text.

Why Photo Blogging?
There could be many reasons to start your own photoblog. You may want to show your amazing works to people from all around the world, and consequently make a lot of money with advertising & sales of your photography. Honestly, in that case you’re going to have rough times ahead, good luck. But if your demands are a little more modest, there are many positive points on opening a photo blog.

Top Advantages of starting a Photo Blog

  • It’s a great way to keep you constantly motivated. I opened JohnShen.L Blog just few months after buying my first DSLR. The main reason? I wanted to learn how to take photos, and I was inspired by many cool photo bloggers who were sharing their photos on line. As soon as people started visiting my photo blog and writing some comments on the photos I knew I had to post something slightly better the next day.. the day after, and the day after that.
  • Networking. Some months ago I had dinner with a very nice guy from Singapore. I’ve never seen him before that day. Well, he’s a photo blogger and I’ve met him through photo blogging. I’ve met many other photo bloggers, exchanged emails, ideas, and tips on photography. If you start visiting and commenting other photo blogs, they’ll surely do the same and they’ll visit and comment yours. At the same time, keep in mind that the majority of people visiting your blog will now write comments, but they’ll surely keep following you. Sometimes they will write you emails, saying you that they like your photos. Then who knows, maybe some of these people will become real friends, or maybe.. you’ll find great job opportunities!
  • Learn from other photo bloggers. There are many amazing talented photo bloggers (well.. photographers) on Internet. Besides writing comments on their photos, look to their photos! Usually, if they use Flickr, you can see the EXIF informations for each photo they post. That’s great information if you are a beginner and you want to learn more. Having access to the EXIF informations of a photo gives you all the ‘settings’ the photographer used to take that photo (iso, aperture, shutter speed, lens used, and so on).
  • You’re going to receive a lot of comments & critiques. When you open a photo blog. Important is ask, implore, for critiques on your works. Maybe you are not going to love comments like ‘You Suck! Fucker! Fake Photo! Suck Photo‘, but other – more constructive – critiques will surely help you. And don’t feel upset if someone points out what he doesn’t like about that photo, instead remember, it’s something you should appreciate. It’s very easy to write positive things, but it’s harder to start writing a critique.
  • It will become your home, on Internet. A photoblog is a blog, and a blog is a website right? Basically when you open a website is like you’re opening a shop, or maybe like opening the door of your home to accept some guests. Sure, you can just don’t care about the graphic template you’re going to use, don’t create a rss feed or saving all your images in 10 megabytes TIFF. Sure, you can do it. But come on, you should welcome your guests right?
  • When you start a photo blog you should think about the people who’re going to visit it. Try to select a cool name, choose a nice template and modify it to adapt to your style (if you already know some web design stuff you can work on it from scratch too). Learn some basic html, think about the plugins you could use to enhance the experience for your visitors.. it’s like opening your art gallery!
  • Also, it’s incredibly important to keep track of how your photo blog is doing, where your visitors are coming from and what keywords they are using to reach you. Maybe it’s not important at the beginning, but it will help you if you plan to increase the traffic to your blog later. There are many great services that generate detailed statistics about the visitors to a website, for example Google analytics. Great for real time tracking, and you can check the statistics in real time with your iPhone.
  • It’s easy! If you already have a camera (Reflex, Compact, Anything!) well, you already have the 90% you need to open a photo blog. Technically it’s very easy to setup and upload new photos

That all i gonna write for today. So what should you expect from the next articles that i’m going to blog? Stay Tune For More Updates!

Himpunan Janji Bersih 2012 Which Organize By Gabungan Janji, A Coalition of 47 NGO’s

History on the year of 2012 – The Rakyat of Malaysia had been stopped to entering to Dataran Merdeka for celebrating 55th National Day Celebration in this 55 Years.

Electoral reforms coalition Bersih 2.0 has clarified that it is not part of a planned gathering called “Janji Demokrasi” to be held on the eve of Merdeka celebrations this Friday but said the event should be allowed. Responding to a statement by Dang Wangi district police chief Zainuddin Ahmad declaring the gathering as illegal and that it was to promote Bersih which “has done all sorts of things”, Bersih said although the organisers included some members of its steering committee, they were there on their individual capacity and not to represent the coalition.

“We support their right to take such action [in organising the gathering] and we support their demand to improvise our democractic system,” it said in a statement. It also questioned what Zainuddin meant by the phrase “all sorts of things”, and challenged him to come forward to testify under oath at the ongoing public hearing convened by Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) on the Bersih 3.0 rally.

Pak Samad Speaking at Dataran Merdeka

Thousands of Malaysians defied a police ban to attend a countdown to the nation’s 55th Merdeka or Independence Day, proving once again that Prime Minister Najib Razak’s BN government could no longer hope to rely on authoritarian and violent crackdowns to cling to power. The Janji Demokrasi (Promised Democracy) event planned for Thursday had been banned at the 11th hour by the police.

Auntie Bersih attended Janji Bersih Rally

Organized by Gabungan Janji, a coalition of 47 NGOs, sister-countdowns were also held at various states and cities around the world, with overseas Malaysians keen to join in the celebrations. Malaysia celebrates its Independence Day anniversary on Friday, August 31. ”This is a real show of love for the country. If not for the drizzle, the crowd would have been even bigger, so who says Malaysians are not patriotic? They love the country and without wishing to politicize the event, I think it is clear they know BN is bad news and must be removed from power,” PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle. ”You can feel the sense of unity of purpose tonight. This is a people uprising Malaysian style. It is very peaceful but it is a revolt no less, BN has lost the hearts and minds of the Rakyat. #JanjiDemokrasi

The World Economic Report’s Global Competitiveness Index 2011-2012

Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was quoted as saying that according to the World Economic Report’s Global Competitiveness Index 2011-2012(Report), our children received a better quality of education than the children in the United States, Germany and United Kingdom. This is a grossly inaccurate statement designed purely for political propaganda that would only diminish the prestigious position of a Deputy Prime Minister.

Not only is Tan Sri Muhyidin is in a state of denial by covering up the significant challenges, weaknesses and even defects in the Malaysian education system, he has made Malaysia an international laughing stock by claiming to be better than US, UK and Germany. If so, Tan Sri Muhyidin should answer why there is not a single Nobel Prize winner who is a Malaysian and neither is there a single Malaysian university amongst the Top 200 Universities in the world? Or when given the choice, why more Malaysian students want to study in US, UK and Germany than in Malaysian universities?

Tan Sri Muhyidin is guilty of cherry picking or choosing selectively only those favorable statistics from this Report. The ranking of 14 which Malaysia received on the quality of education is just one indicator out of many, which measures different aspects at different levels of our education system. In almost all other measures on education, we are ranked lower than 21.For example:
• Quality of Primary Education: Rank 21
• Primary Education Enrollment: Rank 61
• Secondary Education Enrollment: Rank 101
• Tertiary Education Enrollment: Rank 66
• Quality of Math and Science Education: Rank 23
• Quality of Management Schools: Rank 27
• Internet access in schools: Rank 36
• Availability of Research and Training Services: Rank 18

Our Secondary Education Enrollment ranking of 101 is particularly worrying and points to a significant minority of students who dropped out after primary school and is thus deprived of a change to pursue a higher education. Our rank of 101 puts us below Thailand (Rank 94), Indonesia (Rank 91) Brunei (35) and Singapore (17) in the ASEAN region.

Malaysia’s relatively low performance on objective or non-subjective measures such as the primary, secondary and tertiary enrollment rates should be highlighted over and above that of executive survey opinion indicators such as the Quality of Education ranking. Hence, to highlight this subjective indicator and to ignore the other more objective indicators is highly irresponsible and diverts attention from the other serious problems in our education system, including that of high dropout rates leading to low enrollment rates especially at the secondary and tertiary levels.

In almost all of these other indexes, Malaysia’s performance is far from reassuring. For example, in the 2009 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) involving 75 countries, Malaysia was ranked 56th in reading ability, 55th in Mathematics ability and 53 in Science. Our performance in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) has also seen a steady decrease from 1999 to 2007.

The overwhelming evidence from the data in the Report actually contradicts the wild boasts by Tan Sri Muhyidin and confirms that the UK, US and Germany education system is better than Malaysia. In fact the Report reveals that Malaysia have a long uphill climb before our access and average quality of education reaches world-class standards. The time has come for Malaysia’s Education Ministry to boldly admit its weaknesses instead of hiding behind baseless boastings so that we can address these problems.
