PTPTN Debate!! (Rafizi V.S. Khairy) Updated!
PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli has accepted Sinar Harian’s offer to host a debate between him and Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin over the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) this May 3, Sinar Harian reported today. Yesterday, Rafizi challenged the youth leader to debate Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) proposal to offer free education and abolish the federal student loan scheme, to which Khairy agreed. “I received an offer from Sinar Harian, from (Chief Executive Officer Karangkraf Media Group) Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacob saying that he was ready to host our debate. I agreed and welcomed the offer, and shall discuss this with Khairy,” Rafizi (picture) allegedly told Sinar Harian Online yesterday. He added that since Khairy had allowed him to choose the location and format, they would discuss the details soon.
“I will recommend the US presidential format for the debate, and will iron out the details with Khairy later,” he told Sinar Harian. Meanwhile, Hussamuddin said that Karangkraf Media Group made the offer because they are open to hosting debates that could benefit the nation. Khairy will also be debating with Bersih 2.0 Chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan on April 25 over electoral reforms. Rafizi had previously pointed out that Khairy himself had appeared to agree on Twitter that scrapping PTPTN was possible, taking a different viewpoint from his party president, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. In his tweet on Wednesday afternoon, Khairy had added, “PKR missing the point re PTPTN. It’s not whether govt CAN write off the loans. Its whether the govt SHOULD. Most don’t think govt should”. Najib, when responding to PR’s suggestion, had claimed over the weekend that scrapping PTPTN would cost taxpayers some RM43 billion.
Maintaining his party’s stand, Rafizi repeated that PTPTN’s current bill was not RM43 billion as claimed but RM24.7 billion, which could be repaid over a long period. “The only investment needed is about RM2 billion a year and many resources can be used for this, including channelling oil and gas profits into the education field, slashing our defence bill, combatting corruption and plugging leakages and wastages,” he suggested in a statement here. The RM2 billion sum, he added, was very small in comparison with Najib’s allegedly “unprofitable” administrative decisions – the RM1 billion grant to Maju Holdings in the sale of the Kuala Lumpur – Putrajaya highway, writing off Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli’s RM589 million debt to Danaharta and the RM250 million loan for the scandal-ridden National Feedlot Centre (NFC) project. “In reality, wastages from each year are far more than the RM2 billion needed to abolish the PTPTN,” he said. “Even more important, this would be a good opportunity for us to review the entire structure of the country’s education system.”

Pusingan Pertama Debat PTPTN: YB Khairy vs Rafizi [22 Mei 2012 10.00 malam]
UKEC’s Projek Amanat Negara (PAN) held on 29 January 2012 featured the first public debate between UMNO & BN Youth Chief, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, and PKR Director of Strategies, Rafizi Ramli. Taking on a Presidential-style format, the session “Public Policy: Vision 2020 – Is Malaysia Moving Towards the Right Direction?” was civil and diplomatic as the two renowned as passionate voices for their party’s causes squared off. They spoke and in several instances agreed on many issues ranging from Vision 2020, party policies, and race relations, to the rights of students to participate in politics, media access and freedom of assembly.
PTPTN Debate (Rafizi V.S. Khairy) is finish on 11.35pm. Khairy skip many question and did not think about our future education. Just say about politics. Rafizi answer it well and do a lot of research on it. This will be my view point. After tonight debate about PTPTN and the Future of Malaysia’s Higher Education between Khairy Jamaluddin & Rafizi Ramly. The first thing anybody would notice is the vast difference between KJ’s “Style” of debating with Rafizi in London infront of “Highly Education” Malaysians where he seemed more calm, civil and focused. Tonights debate on the other hand, KJ has actually shown his ”Another Side” of how easily he could “Change Colour” like a Chameleon when infront of a crowd of mostly “UMNO Type” by which some of them are even uneducated and unable to “Focus” on the topic being discussed even.
If we did not strike off PTPTN, the 30 Billion Dept will be there forever and who is going to pay for it? We are going to pay for it, our children are going to pay for it cause there is no way our Government can force the student to pay back and there is no law on it. Is not because of the student poor is because people did not want to pay back. Is the same thing goes to Government House. The best option for study loan let go go thru bank, if the student unable to pay the loan, the bank can sue agains the student who are unable to pay.
Before we can proceed to bank for study loan, PTPTN must be strike off, then only let the parliament and the citizen to vote for the system that they want. Education is the most important thing where bring impact on the country, so why not the Government and the Opposition make the few option and let the citizen to vote which system they want for the study loan. Rafizi say want to have Free Education, for me its impossible will happen, if it happen the only way to do is increase income tax then the citizen can enjoy with the free education. Dont ever involve politics on education, it will bring bad impact on the student, there is always a solution, let the citizen to decide which system they want then only government bring this up into parliament for discussion.
That will be the best choice if we can do voting system other the citizen want to strike off PTPTN or Continue with PTPTN. Government cannot give loan forever cause no one will pay back the government, they though is the must to give and youths will never learn a lesson where they did not pay back in time. Make a loan all into Bank, let student apply loan from bank and if they fail to pay it bank can sue them go bankrupt that only the citizen can learn the lesson. For me this will be work and be fair to all of the people, so there wont be any comment that anti-ptptn or support ptptn, cause ones the government can make a voting system for citizen to support or not support ptptn, there will be the decision, accept the government want to make decision them self without caring the citizen.
